Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at melissaselectrolysis@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Electrolysis is athe only FDA-approved permanent hair removal method where a fine probe is inserted into each hair follicle to deliver an electrical current, destroying the hair growth cells.

Yes! Unlike laser hair removal, which only reduces hair growth, electrolysis permanently eliminates the treated follicles. Once a follicle is destroyed, it cannot produce another hair.

Absolutely. Electrolysis is effective on all skin tones and all hair colors, including blonde, red, grey, and white hair — which laser cannot treat effectively.

Laser reduces hair growth but isn’t permanent and doesn’t work well on light, grey, or fine hair. Electrolysis is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal and is effective on every hair type and color.

Most clients describe the feeling as a warm or quick stinging sensation that lasts just a second. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but with proper technique and settings, discomfort is minimal and manageable.

Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to treat each follicle in its active stage. On average, clients begin seeing significant results within 6–18 months of consistent treatments, depending on the area and hair density. Consistant treatments and proper aftercare are necessary for better, faster results.

Yes. When performed by a licensed and/ or state certified electrologist using sterile, disposable probes and proper hygiene standards, electrolysis is completely safe. It’s been practiced for over 100 years with proven results.

When performed correctly and followed by proper aftercare, scarring is extremely rare. Mild redness or tiny scabs are normal and temporary. Following aftercare instructions is key to healthy healing.

Electrolysis can be performed on almost any area of the body, including the face, chin, upper lip, underarms, abdomen, fingers and toes! — anywhere unwanted hair grows.

Keep the treated area clean and dry for 24 hours, avoid makeup, deodorant, or heavy creams, and refrain from picking or touching the area. Apply a soothing aloe gel or witch hazel if needed.
